Wodonga Hospital Maternity Services provides comprehensive care for women during their pregnancies and following their births.
We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and suitably qualified Lactation Consultant for our maternity services.
· Promotes and works within a midwifery model of women centred care
· Demonstrates expert breastfeeding knowledge and skills and acts as a breastfeeding resource for all other health professionals
· Provides a key role in supporting women to breastfeed their new-born
· Provide clinical care and breastfeeding management strategies for women and infants attending the Breastfeeding Clinic, the maternity wards, neonatal services
· Liaise with midwives and neonatal nurses who are assisting women with breastfeeding
· Provide clinical care that is guided by best practice principles, policies and CPG's, and BFHI guidelines
· Actively participate in case discussions and patient review
· Demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of equipment used to support the establishment and maintenance of breastfeeding, and when use is deemed necessary.
· Telephone triage and make appointments for women attending the Breastfeeding Clinic
· Demonstrate flexibility in teamwork and supporting teammates across all allocated areas each day.
ABOUT YOU:
· An experienced lactation consultant, who has a strong commitment in providing patient centred care.
· A person with an empathetic nature and a genuine interest in helping women achieve positive breastfeeding outcomes for themselves and their babies (including working with families with children in the Special Care Nursery).
· You will work alongside the maternity services multidisciplinary team and will be involved in diverse aspects of delivery service from pregnancy and postnatal care. Your skills will include:
Required:
· Current registration with AHPRA
· Qualification in IBCLC or evidence of working towards
· Minimum of 2 years' experience working with breastfeeding women
· Sound Clinical decision making and problem solving, negotiation and conflict management
· Demonstrated experience in postnatal care
· Dedicated to safe best practice and quality care
Excellent communication skills
