Albury Wodonga Health is seeking enthusiastic and motivated Intern Pharmacists to commence in January 2027.

As one of three Intern Pharmacists, you will be part of a supportive and structured internship program designed to help you successfully transition from university to professional practice. Throughout your internship year, you will work alongside experienced pharmacists across a broad range of clinical and operational pharmacy services while developing the knowledge, skills and confidence required for general registration.

The three interns are supported by a shared dedicated preceptor who will provide guidance, mentorship and support throughout the internship year. In addition, you will receive ongoing support from the department's Education Pharmacist and experienced clinical pharmacists across the service.

 

You will participate in a comprehensive education program that includes:

  • A dedicated Intern Pharmacist preceptor shared across the intern cohort
  • A protected weekly Intern Teaching Hour
  • Regular Pharmacy Education Sessions held every Monday and Wednesday
  • Structured orientation and onboarding delivered by the department's dedicated Education Pharmacist
  • Ongoing clinical and professional development opportunities
  • Exposure to a broad range of clinical and operational pharmacy services

 

Working within a large and diverse regional health service, you will gain experience caring for patients across medical, surgical, oncology and specialty services while working alongside multidisciplinary teams committed to delivering outstanding patient care.

AWH is an accredited Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) Residency Program site and Intern Pharmacists are strongly encouraged to apply for residency following registration. The residency program provides an outstanding opportunity to continue developing clinical expertise, research skills, leadership capabilities and professional practice within a supportive learning environment.

About the Pharmacy Department

 

The AWH Pharmacy Department provides high-quality patient-centred care to inpatients, discharge patients and outpatients across three pharmacy campuses: Albury, Wodonga and Cancer Services.

 

The department consists of more than 45 full-time equivalent staff, including pharmacists, intern pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support staff working collaboratively to provide exceptional care to patients across the organisation. Team-based clinical pharmacy services continue to evolve and are supported by automated dispensing cabinets and iPharmacy. Aseptic compounding services are delivered from our Wodonga campus.

 

We are passionate about regional healthcare, education and developing the future pharmacy workforce. The department is recognised for its progressive clinical pharmacy services, including industry-leading Emergency and Critical Care Pharmacy Services and a highly regarded Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Stewardship (ID/AMS) Service.

 

Teaching and professional development are central to our department culture. We are passionate about supporting early-career pharmacists through structured education, practical experience and mentorship. Intern Pharmacists are supported by a dedicated Education Pharmacist and a team of experienced clinicians who are committed to helping them thrive throughout their internship year.

 

The department also has a strong culture of research and quality improvement. Staff are encouraged to develop research skills and participate in projects that improve patient care and healthcare delivery.
