The Physiotherapist in an inpatient mental health setting provides specialised physical health care to individuals experiencing acute or chronic mental illness. The role focuses on improving physical wellbeing, mobility, and functional independence, while supporting recovery-oriented care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess and treat physical health issues that impact mental health recovery.
- Develop and implement individualised physiotherapy programs to support physical activity, relaxation, and functional independence.
- Address side effects of psychotropic medications through movement and exercise interventions.
- Work closely with psychiatrists, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, and peer workers to deliver holistic care.
- Contribute to case conferences, care planning, and discharge planning.
- Facilitate group programs focused on physical activity, body awareness, and stress reduction.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with NSW Health standards.
- Participate in risk assessments related to mobility, falls, and physical health deterioration.
- Engage in ongoing education in mental health and trauma-informed care.
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice.
Selection Criteria
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Physiotherapist.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Physiotherapy.
- Demonstrated experience or interest in working with people with mental illness.
- Ability to assess and manage physical health needs in a mental health context.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage patients with complex needs.
